I am a MD resident and a part-time/non-resident in MS (for grad school). My MD state and Federal taxes have already been filed, I but still need to file my MS taxes. Can I file my MS taxes without my federal info? Does filing my MS taxes separately change or effect anything?

You don’t need to file a federal return with anyone but Uncle Sam. When you file your MS return, that state’s tax office will communicate with the IRS and confirm certain information, like income, your exemptions and deductions.
But you, probably, only have to report to MS the same adjusted gross income that you reported on your federal return. The tax owed (or not) to MS will be driven by that number.

You should fill out your non-resident state tax return first, then your resident return. some states do use Federal figures to determine the amount of state tax due, but most states give you some credit for tax you pay to a non-resident state. some states require you to send a copy of your Federal return or parts of your Fed return as proof of income, or because they don’t have a specific form to cover the income you might have.
You could start over, see if you would be any better off on your home state taxes if you did file your non-resident first. If so, amend the return already filed. If you file a non resident return last, it won’t change the amount you owe that state, but you might pay too much to your home state.
