My husband is wanting to file exempt for just the month of december. We both work and have a 10 month old little girl. They have cut my hours and in order to be able to pay for Christmas more easily we were going to change his status so his check wouldn’t be taxed so much. We have both filed married and no dependants all year even though we have 1 dependant so I tax liability should be made for the year.

He can’t file exempt as you do expect to have a tax liablity. He can, however, change his withholding to a larger number like 5 or so.

Ok to answer your question. You go to employee center on quickbooks and click on the employee name then click on payroll and compensation and then click on taxes and under that you will see dont withhold select that and it will not take any taxes. When you are ready to withhold again just do the same thing.

If he was not set up as exempt…you should not change it now…sometimes Qb will change it for the entire year. Just do what the first responder said…increase his exemptions until the federal tax is close to 0
